The part nobody shows you
The Velocity Method only works if there is a surplus to accelerate. The arithmetic that settles it takes ten seconds, and almost nothing online will do it honestly. Here it is, on a worked example.
That surplus is the whole engine. With it below zero, no amount of chunking helps: the line just climbs.
Chunking borrows against your personal line of credit (PLOC) to kill a high-rate balance, then pays the line down with the surplus. If there is no surplus, the loop has nothing to run on.
Plenty of plans never reach zero. Chunk Chunk says so plainly, names the line that breaches its limit, and does not dress it up as a payoff date.
The mechanism
Not a second budget. One line, doing the job your chequing account was doing, and a home equity line behind it for the months when the PLOC runs out of room.
Your whole pay cheque goes against the PLOC balance the day it arrives. Interest is charged on the average balance, so every day it sits lower costs you less.
Living costs and every card minimum come off the same line. What is left at the end of the month is the real surplus, not the one you hoped for.
A lump comes off the target card, chosen by your strategy. Cash first, then the PLOC, then the HLOC. Repeat until every balance and both lines are at zero.
What you get back
The same worked example, run all the way to zero. Every figure below is live output from the engine. Nothing on this page is typed by hand.
Four ways to order the queue
Lowest balance, highest rate, highest payment, or cash flow index. Same worked example under each: these are real results, run four times.
Mortgages and loans Free
The calculators run an instalment loan three ways: contractual payments, the surplus paid straight in, and the surplus run through a line of credit. Then they tell you which one actually costs less. Often it is not the one you were sold.
Loan maths follows the same amortisation the workbook’s Loan Calc sheet uses. The calculator is built into the free app: enter your own loan, pick which of your credit lines funds the chunks, and it tells you which of the three actually costs less.
How-to videos
Free videos of about five minutes each, from what the Velocity Method actually is to your first plan. Every figure is worked out on screen.
Chunk Chunk ships with a worked example whose answer is Debt free in: Never, because that is what the arithmetic says, under all four strategies. The test suite asserts it stays that way, so a future change cannot quietly turn a failing plan into a comfortable lie.
A tool that only ever tells you yes is not a tool. It is a brochure.
Pricing
The simulator is free and always will be. Pro, for running this every month against real accounts, is free with an account.
$0
No account needed. The whole simulator, forever.
Pro was $96 a year. Now free.
No card needed. Just confirm your email.
What we sell: Merch, the ebook and the coloring book.
Prices in Canadian dollars. No account is required to use the simulator. Your balances, rates, income, plan and budget stay in your browser unless you send them. With a free account the dates and amounts you record as paid sync across your devices, and you can send the whole plan, and your daily budget with it, to another one: it is encrypted here first, under a passphrase we never see, so nobody at Chunk Chunk can read the copy.
Questions
It really is. Make an account, confirm your email, and Pro is on. No card is asked for. We earn from the store, the books and, soon, Custom Reels and the 167 course, so the simulator and Pro can stay free.
No, but it is oversold. It is a real technique that converts a monthly surplus into faster payoff by keeping your balance low on a lower-rate line. It cannot create a surplus you do not have, and most of the material online skips that part. This tool exists to do the arithmetic rather than the pitch.
Only if you ask it to. The simulator runs in your browser and stores your plan in local storage on your own device, and an account is optional. With a free account there is a button that sends one copy of your plan, and your daily budget with it, to your account so another of your devices can pick it up. That copy is encrypted before it leaves, under a passphrase you choose and we never receive, so it is unreadable to us and to anyone who gets hold of it. Nothing is sent until you press it.
The PLOC is the operating account: income lands there, and living costs and every card minimum are charged against it. The HLOC carries no day-to-day flow: it is drawn on only when the PLOC has no room left to fund a chunk, and it is paid down from surplus once the PLOC is clear.
Highest rate is mathematically cheapest. Lowest balance clears accounts fastest, which some people need to keep going. Cash flow index balances the two by ranking balance against payment. The app runs all four so you can compare rather than guess.
Not yet. Every debt currently amortises as a percentage-minimum credit card. Fixed-payment instalment loans are the next thing on the list.
No. It is a calculator that shows its work.
It answers questions about Chunk Chunk from the text on this site, and that is the whole of what it can do. It cannot see your plan: the simulator sits on this same domain, and the widget is built so that it never reads one key of its storage, which is checked on every build. Your question goes to Anthropic, who answer it. Questions are logged with nothing attached that says who asked, and any long number is blanked out first, so we can see what people want to know without learning anything about you.
